Study Visit in Sweden: Discovering Innovative Approaches to Inclusive Adult Education and Community Development
As part of the Erasmus+ project Quality+ Enhancing Inclusive Quality Practices in Adult Education (KA220 – Adult Education), funded by the European Union, the project partnership carried out a study visit in Sweden, bringing together partners to explore inspiring examples of inclusive education, community engagement and local cooperation.
The study visit was designed to strengthen the partners’ understanding of how municipalities, educational institutions and local organisations work together to create accessible learning opportunities and promote social inclusion for diverse groups of learners. Throughout the visit, participants had the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss innovative practices and reflect on approaches that can improve the quality of adult education across Europe.
One of the key visits took place at Gislaveds Kommun, where partners explored the institution’s role in providing lifelong learning opportunities, vocational education and flexible learning pathways for adults. The discussions highlighted how education providers can respond to the changing needs of learners by offering programmes that support both personal development and employability. Discussions focused on how municipalities collaborate with educational institutions, cultural organisations and civil society to ensure equal access to public services, encourage active citizenship and respond effectively to the diverse needs of their communities.
The delegation also visited Partille city at Villa W, an organisation dedicated to supporting labour market integration and employment opportunities. Participants learned about initiatives that help individuals develop professional skills, improve their employability and access meaningful career opportunities through personalised guidance and cooperation with local stakeholders. The visit demonstrated the importance of combining education, career support and community partnerships to foster social inclusion.
Throughout the study visit, project partners exchanged ideas on topics such as lifelong learning, community participation, inclusion, quality assurance and cross-sector collaboration. These discussions highlighted the importance of building strong partnerships between local authorities, education providers and community organisations to create sustainable and inclusive learning environments.
Beyond the institutional visits, the study visit also provided valuable opportunities for networking and peer learning among project partners. By comparing experiences from different European countries, participants identified common challenges and explored innovative solutions that can be adapted within their own organisations and local contexts.
The knowledge and good practices collected during the Swedish study visit will directly contribute to the development of the Quality+ project outputs. The experiences gained will support the partnership in designing practical resources, quality tools and inclusive methodologies that empower adult education providers to better respond to the needs of diverse learners, including those facing barriers to participation.
